Ars Technica has a great review with Ed Finker, who is the developer behind Spaz which is an open source twitter app.  It goes into detail on what it takes to move this from the desktop to the Palm Pre.  It seems that the basics are just that, basic and easy to understand.  But, to master the process is a bit more complicated.
