Discovery has an interesting story on Dr. Richard Obousy, who has designed a warp ship given our currently knowledge of spacetime and superstring theory.  The idea is to use Dark Matter to power the ship and with this manipulate the spacetime surrounding it.  They state that extra dimensions are predicted by superstring theories, and these could be shrunk and expanded by the warp drive by using the dark energy to manipulate them.

So they would compress spacetime forward of the ship and decompress spacetime behind the ship, so the net effect is the time in front of you (forward spacetime) is much shorter than the Spacetime behind you.  So the relative distant traveled is the same, but due to manipulating spacetime in your local area, you seem to travel faster than light, but never break an physical laws.  And inside the Bubble, time moves forward at it’s same leisurely pace.  Follow the link below and feel free to comment on the article when you get back.
